How CHARLES DE GAULLE died: By 1968, the social situation in France was quite delicate and De Gaulle had just lost a referendum. These events led him to leave power in 1969 to devote himself to writing.
His death was due to a heart attack; however, there is another version in which it is stated that the death of Charles de Gaulle was the product of a stroke.
According to the story, de Gaulle was in his residence with his wife watching television, when suddenly he fell from his chair and, although his wife ask for help immediately, by the time the doctor and priest arrived, de Gaulle had already passed away. Hours earlier, the ex-president had done his routine walk and had returned to work on his memoirs, so the fact itself was much unexpected.
The funeral, despite Charles De Gaulle’s own wishes, was multitudinous. His death made the UN see the obligation to organize a separate service, to assist the dignitaries who wanted to honor him.
Charles de Gaulle was one of the most influential figures in the history of the process of building the European Union, and rests in the cemetery of Colombey-les-deux-Eglises, with his daughter Anne.
