How JOHN LENNON died: Known for being part of the famous band The Beatles, John Lennon was murdered the night of December 8, 1980, when he returned to his residence with his wife.

That day in the afternoon, John Lennon and Yoko Ono left their residence to Record Plant Studio, to work on a song. The couple spent several hours in the studio before returning home. Lennon wanted to arrive in time to say good night to his 5 year old son.

When they arrived, Yoko Ono stepped forward to the reception of the building, and as Lennon passed, Mark David Chapman shot him five times in the back, failing one shot. Lennon was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital; however, when he arrived he had no pulse, and although the doctors tried to do a manual cardiac massage, the wounds he had were very serious.

John Lennon was pronounced dead when he arrived at the emergency room at 11:15 p.m. The cause of his death was recorded as a hypovolemia. That afternoon, Lennon had autographed a copy of Double Fantasy to Chapman.

There was no funeral. John Lennon was cremated and his remains turned over to his wife Yoko Ono.
